Reinforcing Co-operation with
the Legislature
68. A legislature that monitors
and co-operates sincerely with the Government is the cornerstone
of effective governance. This is also something our community
would be happy to see. 69.
The Government will, on the basis of equality and mutual
respect, strengthen its dialogue and co-operation with
the Legislative Council. We will have more contacts
with independent legislators and their colleagues from
different political parties, so they will better understand
and be able to exercise a more positive influence on
the position, policy intent and objectives of the Government.
70. We will, in a spirit of mutual
respect and understanding, seek support from a majority
of legislators for our policies, bills and proposals
for public expenditure. We will respect the opinions
and feelings of legislators in the minority who raise
objections. |
